About Us
Edinburgh's Old Town and New Towns are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and are meant to be discovered, explored, and enjoyed. However, as the city's original fabric is largely left unaltered, this creates issues with navigability, as steep inclines, steps, and uneven surfaces present challenges to anyone with mobility issues.
Dunedin Tours' core values are to provide informative, 100% fact-based tours that do not require any steps, move at a slower pace, and provide stops for guests to rest at. Other major tour companies in the city require guests to need to utilise steep staircases, walk very fast, and take physical risks that not every person is able to do.
Our tours use routes with no stairs or steep climbs (the best that we can - the city is very hilly!), or claustrophobic spaces such as the vaults. Tours are limited to 9 people, which ensures we can all stick together, cross roads safely at designated crossing spots, maximise the ability to hear the guide speaking, and minimise sensory overload for anyone with auditory sensory issues. We provide a laid-back, easygoing experience because our mission is to provide a comfortable tour for the people, not for exorbitant profits. Additionally, a bespoke tour can be requested at no extra charge. Is there something in particular you want to see or learn about? Is there a certain neighbourhood you want to explore? We can accommodate that! After all, we are all about accomodation. Bespoke tours are the same price as the standard tours, which focus on a holistic view of the city's intangible history and remaining material fabric: from geology and geography, to politics and religion, to changing socioeconomics and cultural norms, we bring all of those aspects together to illustrate how they shape architecture, the layout of the town, and the real events which occurred.
